Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller manages the Finance Team responsible for the day-to-day accounting needs of the business.  She/he will be a forward-thinker who has strong communication, technology, analytical and management skills. The Controller will demonstrate knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE) and/or US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). She/he will be organized, multitask effectively and communicate clearly with others (both verbally and in writing).  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting and reporting of the Company’s consolidated business results
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Business partner to Management providing information for decision-making process
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Payroll, sales order invoicing and credit memo processing
  • Review payroll, payment runs and bank reconciliations
  • Payroll processing through Ceridian
  • Month end journal entries including deprecation, loans and payroll
  • Preparing monthly GST, PST, EHIT remittances
  • Monthly consolidation and reporting
  • Reporting for external programs
  • Subsidy applications (IRAP, BSP, CEWS, CERS, etc.) and reporting
  • Year end review support
  • Ad hoc system implementations
Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of standard accounting practices
  • Experience in Ceridian / Business Central
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Experience with consolidations, particularly involving international operations would be an asset
  • Proven prioritization, time management, and project management skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative, and accountability
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
Education & Experience
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in an accounting setting
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance as well as a professional designation such as CPA
