Job Description
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller manages the Finance Team responsible for the day-to-day accounting needs of the business. She/he will be a forward-thinker who has strong communication, technology, analytical and management skills. The Controller will demonstrate knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE) and/or US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). She/he will be organized, multitask effectively and communicate clearly with others (both verbally and in writing).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions
- Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting and reporting of the Company’s consolidated business results
- Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
- Business partner to Management providing information for decision-making process
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
- Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
- Developing and monitoring business performance metrics
- Overseeing regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
- Payroll, sales order invoicing and credit memo processing
- Review payroll, payment runs and bank reconciliations
- Payroll processing through Ceridian
- Month end journal entries including deprecation, loans and payroll
- Preparing monthly GST, PST, EHIT remittances
- Monthly consolidation and reporting
- Reporting for external programs
- Subsidy applications (IRAP, BSP, CEWS, CERS, etc.) and reporting
- Year end review support
- Ad hoc system implementations
Qualifications
- Experience and knowledge of standard accounting practices
- Experience in Ceridian / Business Central
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365
- Experience with consolidations, particularly involving international operations would be an asset
- Proven prioritization, time management, and project management skills
- Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative, and accountability
- High standards of ethics and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
Education & Experience
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in an accounting setting
- Degree in Accounting or Finance as well as a professional designation such as CPA
