Job Summary

The R&D System Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design, validation, and enhancement of electro-mechanical air and water disinfectant products, shaping them from initial concept to validated product, ready for manufacturing. In addition to this core responsibility, he/she will be actively participating in the exploration of new materials, system validation protocols and technologies to continually innovate and improve our product offerings and reliability. As a key member of the R&D team, the R&D System Engineer will conduct rigorous product testing, ensuring adherence to customer specifications and regulatory standards.

We are looking for someone who thrives on hands-on challenges and possesses a natural aptitude for problem solving.  The successful candidate will be an energetic and motivated individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment with a desire to make a strong impact on the business.

This position is based in-office at our Burnaby Head Office location.

What you will be doing:
  • Generate product and process solutions based on customer and business needs;
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of product certification, quality, and requirements;
  • Build and maintain research and development capabilities and support advanced technology projects as an engineering resource (e.g. novel test equipment and SOPs);
  • Develop and execute design verification test plans and perform testing of new products;
  • Provide design and technical support for existing products (change management, failure analysis, trouble shooting, etc.);
  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders to understand, document, and meet their needs;
  • Other duties as required to assist with day-to-day coordination of R&D and engineering team activities.
Skills you will need:
  • Experienced in the design and assembly and validation of lab-scale experimental apparatuses and test setups;
  • Good knowledge of structural design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow analysis and selection of mechanical components;
  • Enjoy hands-on lab work coupled with problem solving, communication, and analyze results;
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
What we are looking for:
  • Sc. or M.A.Sc. in Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering with 1-3 years of relevant engineering or research experience;
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with SolidWorks;
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and mechanical/assembly drawings;
  • Familiarity with engineering tools such as design verification planning, structured problem solving and DFMEA;
  • Proven experience with data analysis in an engineering or research setting;
  • Familiar with designing, fabricating and commissioning test equipment.
